Play now1 November 2026Easier Easy, and a Hearth that changes your runs
Difficulty
- Easy is a good deal easier. The horde toughens over a run at 70% of the rate it did, ordinary enemies have 85% of their health, you take 45% damage (was 55%), the horde comes 75% as thick (was 80%), and potions drop 1.6× as often (was 1.3×) and heal 1.5× as much.
- Medium is a little easier. The horde toughens at 90% of the rate it did, and you take 90% damage.
- Hard is unchanged.
The Hearth
- A second row of four one-time unlocks:
- Kindred Flame (100 Cinders): +1 to every skill with a count, at any rank: Cinder Bolt's bolts, Arc Lash's jumps, Wardstones, Fireflies, Storm Spires, Ember Familiars, Ember Rain's meteors and Pyre Brands.
- Foresight (100): level-ups offer four boons instead of three.
- Hearthfire (75): potions heal twice as much.
- Phoenix's Favour (200): once a run, the Phoenix raises you from death at half health. Its wave burns up the ordinary horde right around you; bosses, rares and magic foes are only thrown back.
Bosses
- The Mother of Ash has a second phase: below half health she roars, throws you back, and her heart lies bare for a few seconds. From then on she attacks more often and follows a dash with another attack far more often.
- The Cinder Wyrm is one creature, not a dozen: skills that hit many of its pieces at once (several bolts, leaping lightning, novas) now count at most twice, instead of once for every piece they touched. Hits on its body count in full (they counted 40%). Its health is 4,400.
Boss fights
- While a boss is up, the horde comes at 25% for the first minute and builds back to full by two and a half minutes, on every difficulty (Hard was 50%). The Pyre Hierophant brings a crowd of his own, so his fight holds the horde at 15% for two minutes, back to full by four.
- A boss off the screen shows at its edge: a medallion with its portrait, its arrow pointing the way.
Look and sound
- The enemies' bigger fires show a red edge where the danger ends, so you can tell at a glance which to stay out of.
- The level-up moment before the cards is shorter (0.75 seconds, was 1.25).
- Fire Lights start at 35% (was 100%): calmer in a big fight. If you'd set your own, it stays.
- Cinder Bolts are less bright (60%).
- The common blue XP shards glow less (70%), so the green and gold ones stand out.
- The narrator repeats himself less: "A chain of pyres" has six takes and comes round less often each time in a run, and a fallen boss has three lines.
Interface
- Settings are in tabs: Gameplay, Display and Graphics.
- New setting, My Fire (Gameplay): your own fire (Flame Wake, Ember Rain's meteors and the ground your skills and gear set burning) in orange, as it always was, or in gold or red, so you can tell it from the enemies'.
- The leaderboard shows its rows' outline while it loads, so it no longer jumps, and a board you've opened shows at once next time.
- An open game tells you when a new version is out, with a button to refresh. Never during a run.
- This page.
1 November 2026Gear that combines your skills
- 13 new items that make your skills work together: fire hits harder on Shocked foes, a killed Branded foe sets off the Burning ones round it, and more.
- Every item now has a third tier, and picking up a copy of an item you wear upgrades it.
- Item cards show which skills an item works with.
- A Gear tab in the codex (K): every item you've seen, its tiers and what it works with.
- Icons over enemies show the marks your gear uses (Settings: Mark Icons).
- A narrator for the run's big moments (Settings: Narrator).
- Calmer fire light in big fights, and dimmer braziers.
31 October 2026The Ash Plains, rebuilt
- The map has places now: shrines, ruins, graveyards, lava fields, a fallen idol, and a chasm at the edge of the world.
- Fires light the ground, and a low haze glows round them.
- Smoother: no more hitches at level-ups, and faster frames.
- New setting: Anti-aliasing.
- Returning players only download what changed.
